Christmas village in Liège
The Christmas market in Liège is often referred to as the oldest Christmas market in Belgium. With over 200 chalets, it is a real Christmas village. Accordingly, the Christmas market has real honorary citizens and a mayor. Fun activities to do include a ride on the Ferris wheel, a skating on the ice rink or the toboggan run. And of course you can enjoy Christmas shopping.
Travel information
You can take the train to Maastricht and change to the intercity to Liège. Or you can choose to make the train journey by Eurostar or Intercity Brussel. Choose which train to travel with to Liège based on your requirements.
Intercity Brussels becomes Eurocity Direct and EuroCity from 15 December
From 15 December 2024, the name and route of Intercity Brussels will change. The fast train to Brussels will soon be called Eurocity Direct. In addition to the Intercity, there will also be an extra train to Belgium, EuroCity. Until that date, you can continue to travel on the current trains.

Early Bird can be booked up to 3 days before departure. The availability is limited. Listed from-prices are based on tickets from Amsterdam Central Station, one-way. The price of Intercity Brussels is based on kilometres – if you depart form a station that is closer to Liège, then the trip is cheaper.
When is Christmas market Liège
Liège's city centre is cosy during the winter months. The Christmas markets are open from 29 November to 30 December 2024.
What else is there to do?
Besides visiting the Christmas market, there is much more to do in Liege. Go shopping and climb the 374 steps of the Montagne de Bueren for great views over the city. You can also visit the aquarium museum or one of the other museums. It is also worth scheduling time to take a good look at Liege-Guillemins station. It is a fine example of modern architecture.
