Opening new UK Terminal Amsterdam Centraal

10 February 2025

Today Eurostar, NS and ProRail officially opened the new terminal for rail passengers to London. Chris Jansen, State Secretary for Public Transport and the Environment, officially opened the terminal. The new terminal will enable rail passengers from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to take Eurostar services direct to London. The modern and much larger Amsterdam terminal is equipped with all the necessary facilities for passengers to check in and go through passport control quickly and conveniently. When fully completed, the terminal will have a capacity of around 650 passengers. Together with around 160 passengers boarding at Rotterdam station, it will accommodate around 800 passengers per train from the Netherlands to London.

Where ships once sailed to England, trains now travel to London. Not over, but under the sea, and not over several days, but in a matter of hours. With this new terminal in Amsterdam and the existing capacity in Rotterdam, more than 800 passengers will be able to board each train later this year. This will make this connection the absolute standard for international rail services in our country.

New UK terminal

NS is responsible for the construction of the new terminal. The layout has been designed together with the architects and Eurostar. The entrance is located on the central side of Amsterdam Central Station in the Amstel Passage. The terminal is sustainable and comfortable, with:

  • Climate positive floors, A+ energy rating and environmentally friendly materials, including recycled wall finishes and felt ceilings.
  • Free Wi-Fi, an advanced real-time information system and smart lighting.
  • Various seating areas designed for relaxation or productivity.
  • A café serving fresh coffee, tea, pastries and complimentary chilled water. Allowing passengers to relax while waiting for their train to depart.

Direct from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to London

From 10 February 2025, Eurostar will run from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to London St Pancras v.v. three times a day on weekdays and Sundays, and twice a day on Saturdays. Tickets on sale starting from € 88 return.

Today marks the first step in the phased expansion of the timetable:

  • 10 February - late March 2025: Eurostar carries around 400 passengers per Amsterdam-London trip, which is a 10% increase.
  • 29 March - 22 April: Passengers travelling to London will have to change trains in Brussels. This is because ProRail is renovating the platform.
  • From 23 April: The passenger capacity will be increased to around 600 out of Amsterdam and around 160 out of Rotterdam.
  • Late 2025: Full capacity of approximately 650 passengers per trip from Amsterdam will be reached.

With Eurostar, NS aims to increase the number of daily London-Amsterdam services to five by 2026.
