Cologne's zoo: Kölner Zoo

Cologne Zoo, Kölner Zoo, is the third oldest zoo in Germany. The Zoo is also called Zoölogische Garten Köln and was founded in 1860. Since then, the zoo has expanded considerably with an aquarium, a large ape house and a special enclosure for tropical animals.

Cologne Zoo is huge. In an area of around 20 hectares, more than 10,000 animals from some 750 different species live. In particular, there are many elephants. No less than 12 Asian elephants live in the special elephant park. The monkeys and other primates are also well represented. You will find 25 types of primates here, including orang-utans and mantle baboons. But Cologne Zoo also has energetic spider monkeys and red ruffed and ring-tailed lemurs.
