New Nightjet trains between the Netherlands and Austria from 28 May 2025

From 28 May 2025, new Nightjet trains will run between the Netherlands and the Austrian cities of Vienna and Innsbruck. Trains to Basel and Zurich (Switzerland) will be replaced at a later date. You can find information on accommodation from 28 May 2025 below:

ÖBB Nightjet to Vienna and Innsbruck from the Netherlands

This Nightjet runs daily from Amsterdam Centraal, Amersfoort, Deventer, (across Bad Bentheim border) to Vienna and Innsbruck. The journey takes 14 to 16 hours depending on the destination.

ÖBB Nightjet to Basel SBB and Zurich from the Netherlands

This Nightjet runs daily from Amsterdam Centraal, Utrecht Centraal, Eindhoven, (across Venlo border) to Basel SBB and Zurich. The journey takes 9 to 11.5 hours depending on the destination.

Book tickets

You can book your train tickets online. You can book your tickets for ÖBB Nightjet from 180 days before departure. Book as soon as possible, as the cheapest fares often sell out quickly.

Book ladies only compartment or mobility impairment

Flexible booking

When booking you can choose a flexible ticket. You cannot cancel or change the non-flex rate (lowest price) after purchase. If you do want to be able to change or cancel your trip, choose the mid-flex rate. You can change and cancel free of charge up to and including 15 days before departure. After that time you can change or cancel your ticket (s) for a 50% fee.

Mandatory reservation

It is mandatory to reserve a place on the ÖBB Nightjet in the type of accommodation you wish to have. Make sure you are at your reserved place within 15 minutes prior to departure. If you are not in your reserved place 15 minutes after the train leave you may forfeit your place.

On board of Nightjet

On board the Nightjet towards Austria, you can choose between a sleeping, couchette, or seating option. There are sleeping compartments for 1 or 2 people, couchette compartments for 4 people, and standard seats. You can book a private compartment or share one with other travellers.

Sleeping cars

  • The most comfortable option: choose between a standard or deluxe sleeping compartment for 1 or 2 people.
  • Beds are provided with linen (pillow and blanket) and there is a washbasin that is stocked with towels and toiletries.
  • A deluxe sleeping compartment has its own bathroom equipped with washbasin, shower and toilet and is stocked with towels and shower gel.
  • If you book a single bed in a 2 persons’ compartment, you will share a compartment with another passenger.
  • You will receive a welcome package which includes an aperitif, a snack and a bottle of mineral water. In the evening you may select an elaborate breakfast which will be served in your compartment at a your own chosen time.
  • Price sleeping cars from € 100 to € 225.

Couchettes

  • Compartments are there for 4 persons.
  • You can book a mini cabin for one person. You can also book two mini cabins next to each other with a connecting door.
  • There is a blanket, sheet and pillow on each berth. Washing and toilet facilities are located outside the compartment in the coach.
  • Mineral water and a small breakfast are included with your stay. Drinks and refreshments are available for a fee and served in your compartment.
  • You can indicate your preference for an upper or lower bed when booking. when booking by phone.
  • The compartments are designed for groups and families. There are also compartments especially for ladies or wheelchair travellers.
      • Private compartments are also available for 1-4 people.
      • Price couchettes from € 55 to € 130.

Luggage

Luggage space is limited on ÖBB Nightjet. It is recommended not to take more than one case and one item of hand luggage per person. You must be able to carry your luggage yourself and place the luggage in the luggage racks and/or above seats and berths. A number of coaches have larger luggage racks at the front.

Bicycles on board

In the direct overnight train from Amsterdam to Vienna and Munich and Innsbruck, there is room for six bicycles. The bike must meet these conditions:

  • Maximum bike length 185 cm
  • Bicycle height 110 cm
  • Bicycle width 60 cm
  • Wheel diameter 28 inches
  • Tyre width 4.2 cm
  • Maximum weight 30 kg

    Wi-Fi and sockets

    There is Wi-Fi in the Nightjet. And there are regular sockets as well as USB ports where you can charge your devices. You can also charge wirelessly in the sleeping compartments.

    Frequently asked questions Nightjet

    The new Nightjet will run between Hamburg and Vienna and Innsbruck, and from 28 May 2025 between Amsterdam and Vienna and Innsbruck.
    The beds in the couchette coaches are 190 cm long. The beds in the mini cabins are 189 cm.
    Yes, sitting upright is possible in the mini cabin. The height between the mattress and the ceiling is 94 cm.
    There is a lockable compartment for hand luggage (max 40 x 55 x 23 cm ) and a separate shoe compartment (max 18 x 57 x 15 cm).  
    There is a small connecting door between two adjoining mini cabins. It can be opened and closed with a rotary knob. The partition can only be opened if the knob is pressed from both sides. If you book two cabins in one booking, they will be adjacent if available.

    On board of Nightjet

    On Board the Nightjet On board the Nightjet, you can choose between a sleeping, couchette, or seating option. There are sleeping compartments for 1, 2, or 3 people, couchette compartments for 4 or 6 people, and standard seats. You can book a private compartment or share one with other travellers.

    Couchettes

    • Choose between a private, 4-person, or 6-person compartment—ideal for groups, families, and solo travellers.
    • Simple but comfortable couchettes with a blanket, sheet, and pillow for a good night’s sleep. Includes mineral water and a small breakfast to start the day well. Food and drinks can be bought on board and served in your compartment.
    • Foldable bunk beds on both sides of the compartment—converted into seats during the day. Easy access to washrooms and toilets in the carriage (outside the compartment).
    • Lockable compartment for extra privacy and a secure feeling.
    • There are special compartments for women and,- wheelchair-bound travellers. Also available are private compartments for 1-6 persons (1-3 adults, max. 5 children up to 14 years) at a fixed rate incl breakfast – very interesting for families, small groups or senior citizens (as they can spend the night comfortably on 2 beds side by side).

      You can book bike tickets by phone at 030-2300023. If you definitely want to take your bike with you, it is best to check by phone if there is still a bike space before buying your other tickets. During the journey, you can lock your bike with a lock you bring yourself.
