Citytrip to Bruges
Bruges is so picture perfect! During a weekend break in this Flemish city, you just won't have enough time to absorb all that beauty. In the historic city centre, all the highlights are within walking distance of each other. Of course, it's also possible to discover them during a carriage ride or from the water. One thing is certain: a citytrip to Bruges is an excellent idea!
Historic city centre
Did you know that Bruges was an important Hanseatic city? The flourishing trade brought the city great wealth. And that can still be seen in the imposing, centuries-old buildings. It’s the reason the entire city centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During your weekend in Bruges, you can walk down cobblestone streets right into the past.
Venice of the North
Bruges owes its nickname 'Venice of the North' to its many canals (reien). During your weekend break, a canal cruise should therefore not be missing from your to-do list. After every stone arch bridge another beautiful spot looms up. And thanks to the explanation in the boat, you can learn a lot about Bruges in half an hour.
View from the Belfry
You can’t miss the the 83-metre-high Belfry on the Market Square. Would you like to enjoy the magnificent view over the city during your weekend in Bruges? No sweat; you will only have to climb the 366 steps to the top! One consolation: to enjoy the chiming of 47 bells, you don't have head up the stairs. You can keep your feet firmly on the ground.
Belgian beer
You're away for the weekend, so maybe you're tempted to grab a pint. Brewery De Halve Maan is the place to be in Bruges. Also interesting if you don't drink beer, because they give daily guided tours. Would you like to know more about the centuries-old tradition of brewing beer? Then visit the Bruges Beer Museum on the corner of the Grote Markt and the Breidelstraat Museum!
Chocolade dessert
Bruges is the undisputed chocolate capital of Belgium. A visit to the chocolate museum Choco-Story is therefore mandatory! You will learn everything about chocolate: from its history to the production process. Does it taste like more? No problem, in the Choco-Store you can find all your favourite types of chocolate.
